National Rescue Dog Day

National Rescue Dog Day

Happy Rescue Dog Day!

#NationalRescueDogDay was founded by our friends over at Tails That Teach - teaching kids to be kind to all.  Their primary focus is children ages 5-8 as these are critical years to start building empathy through the human-animal bond.

Lisa Wiehebrink of Tails That Teach wanted to bring awareness to the countless number of amazing dogs in shelters waiting to be adopted, to promote humane education for young children, and to encourage spay/neuter practices to avoid over population that contributes to dogs being left on the streets. National Rescue Dog Day was inspired by "Cooper", her rescue dog that was rescued back in 2009 and is now the main character in the Tails That Teach book series, "Love Me Gently - A Kid's Guide to Man's Best Friend" a book that teaches children how to be kind and gentle to their pets. Find the book here!

Rescue dogs often overcome extreme obstacles and yet provide comfort, security, and friendship as family pets. But rescue dogs are capable of so much more. With training, they contribute to the independence of people with disabilities as service animals and give comfort to the elderly. In these circumstances, they become our eyes, ears, or legs as well as our best friend.

We are proud to support Tails that Teach in their mission towards raising awareness about the importance of the adoption of rescue dogs. To celebrate this special day of recognition for rescue dogs, Nature's Select will be donating 5% off all dry dog food sales on NaturesSelectShop.com during the week of May 16th through May 22nd to our friends over at OC Animal Care! Buy pet food for your dog, and in turn help feed shelter dogs in need. Do good, feel good!

We are excited to be able to give back to OC Animal Care, as we have been a proud partner of theirs since 2007. Nature's Select Pet Food provides our healthy pet food to their shelter dogs in need at their facility located in Tustin, California. All shelter dogs at their facility eat our Select Multi Protein Recipe. OC Animal Care promotes life and promotes pet adoption - we are happy to support them in any way that we can! After all, rescues are the best breed. #AdoptDontShop
