Why Pet Adoption Matters

Why Pet Adoption Matters

While all of us here at Nature's Select LOVE pets of all shapes and sizes, we have a soft spot for rescue animals. If you are looking to expand your family with a new pet, here is why you should always consider adopting over shopping.

REASONS TO RESCUE

Rescue a pet, save a life.

When you choose to rescue a dog or cat from a shelter, you are quite literally saving their life! According to The Humane Society, 2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States each year, simply because our shelters do not have the capacity for all homeless animals.

"Rescue" is the best breed!

Of course we all have our own favorite dog breed, but in our experience rescue dogs are the best kind. Not only are they beautiful animals deserving of a home, but they will be forever grateful to you for giving them a family. They will give you unconditional love and will be your best friend for life.

Make a difference.

Adopting a pet has so many positive outcomes. When someone adopts an animal, they are creating less of a demand for pet stores, which in turn creates less of a demand for puppy mills. We won't get into the awful details of puppy mills, but just know that people who choose to shop for animals from a pet store are contributing to the problem. If more of us chose to adopt, we could end the vicious cycle!

Save money.

Often times adopting an animal from a local rescue group or animal shelter is far less costly than buying directly from a breeder or pet store. Many times shelters will already have neutered/spayed, microchipped, and given a pet's shots, too! You save money all around and can feel good adopting.

We all deserve second chances at life & love.

Animals that end up in shelters are not "bad" or "broken". Most of the time these animals were forgotten, abandoned, abused, or mistreated. These precious animals are worthy of a warm bed, a loving family, and a forever home. Adopting a pet is so amazing because a lot of times these pets can finally understand what it means to be loved!

Allow more pets to be saved off the streets.

When you adopt one animal, you're actually making room at the shelter, which allows for more animals to be saved. When you rescue one dog or one cat, you are actually rescuing multiple overtime.

Pets improve health.

Having a pet in your life helps to promote an overall healthier lifestyle. Many studies show that people with pets are happier and healthier, both mentally & physically. People with pets are more likely to spend time outdoors, exercise, and have more of a social life.

Rescues are one-of-a-kind!

Rescue pets are unique and have their own special personality and appearance. They are usually a mix of multiple breeds, and no two are the same. When looking to adopt a pet from a shelter, you are certainly encouraged to find the perfect match for your family and household. Maybe a an older pet that is house-trained and knows their basic commands would do better at your house than a new puppy would. Perhaps a dog that gets along with small children or other pets is something on your checklist? Regardless of who you are searching for, there is a pet out there waiting just for you!
